When Paul Robeson broke silence asunder

I remember being filled with wonder

At the glorious sound

Echoing around

Booming with his spiritual thunder

When Paul Robeson simply gave his greeting

I recall how it would thrill our meeting

How the room would ring

With ideas he'd bring

Spoken words we found well worth repeating

When Paul Robeson sent that great voice soaring

In a concert, there we sat adoring

Magnificent songs

Beloved by great throngs

'Round the world wherever he went touring

List'ning now to ordinary voices

Making all their ordinary noises

We recall the rare

Voice beyond compare

That Paul Robeson brought us to enjoy, yes
