(Appreciated when listening to Ornithology, by Charlie Parker)
A word about "The Bird," Charlie Parker
A musical phenomenon that occurred
To carry the world on a trip
Creating music that was truly hip
Sounds that nobody ever heard before
Notes upon which "Bird" would soar
Too many for any to set into words
Too many for any to set into words
He first became "The Bird", Charlie Parker
Because somebody said he was a yardbird
But were they aware of his flight?
How he had carried music out of sight
Taking it off into his atmosphere
To the sounds he had us hear
Too many for any to set into words
Too many for any to set into words
Does ornithology study Parker?
Does ornithology the study of bird
Explain the way he came to fly?
How he was able to remain so high
Borne on the melodies his horn could swing
Notes upon which "Bird" took wing
Too many for any to set into words
Too many for any to set into words
You were too much for words, Charlie Parker
You were too clever ever to set to word
You always had so much to say
Put so much feeling into what you'd play
I might write lyrics that a singer quotes
But you made too many notes
Too many for any to set into words
Too many for any to set into words
