For those of us surviving at death’s door

Although linger we may yet die we must

There is a final settlement of the score

Regardless of the gods in whom we trust

Departure is the price we all must pay

Apparently for our having arrived

Regardless how much we may want to stay

No way to do so has yet been contrived

Therefore, as you lie holding your life’s breath

Regardless of how tenacious your grip

Eventually you will live up to death

Embarking on its never-ending trip

Apparently, what brought you in to start

Has everything you need once you depart
